How To Prepare:

Ultrasound / CT Scan / MRI / Mammogram


Ultrasound Preps

AAA: Do NOT eat or drink anything 6 hours before the exam. Small amount of water and any medications are okay.

Abdominal Doppler/ Limited / Complete: Do NOT eat or drink anything 6 hours before the exam. Small amount of water and any medications are okay. 

Bladder: Drink 32oz of water 1 hour prior to exam time. Hold bladder, bladder MUST be full.

Pelvic Transabdominal:  Drink 32oz of water 1 hour prior to exam time. Hold bladder, bladder MUST be full. 

Pelvic Transvaginal:  Drink 32oz of water 1 hour prior to exam time. Hold bladder, bladder MUST be full. 

Renal Arterial Doppler:  Do NOT eat or drink anything 6 hours before exam. Small amount of water and any medications are okay. 

   **NO PREP FOR: ABI, Arterial Doppler, Carotid Doppler, Echocardiogram, Neck, Soft Tissue Ultrasounds, Renal, Scrotal, Thyroid, or Venous Doppler


CT Scan Preps

CT Abd/Pel: Do NOT eat or drink anything 4 hours before the exam. Small amount of water and any medications are okay. 

CT with contrast: Do NOT eat or drink anything 4 hours before the exam. Small amount of water and any medications are okay. 

CTA:  Do NOT eat or drink anything 4 hours before the exam. Small amount of water and any medications are okay. 

CTA Coronary: Do NOT eat or drink anything 4 hours before the exam. Avoid caffeinated foods and drinks. No smoking. BETA BLOCKER will need to be given prior to the exam. Please call the office for further instruction, if this information was not passed along to you by your doctor or our staff.

**CT with contrast/CTA patients: If you have any allergies to iodine, seafood or shellfish, please consult your physician regarding a steroid allergy prep, prior to your exam. 

**CT with contrast/CTA patients: If you are diabetic and take any of the medications below, you MUST stop these medications for 48 after the exam: Any medication containing Metformin including, but not limited to; Actoplus Met, Actoplus Met XR, Avandaryl, Avandemet, Fortamet, Glucophage, Glucophage XR, Glucovance, Glumetza, Invokamet, Janumet, Janumet XR, Jentadueto, Kazano, Kombiglyze XR, Metaglip, Metformin, PrandiMet, Riomet, Rosiglitazone, Synjardy, Xigduo XR.


MRI Preps

Abdomen: Do NOT eat or drink 4 hours before the exam. 

Prostate: No sexual activity of any kind for 48 hours before the exam. 

**Please remove all jewelry.

**Comfortable clothing without metal closures is suggested. (no zippers, snaps, buttons, etc) This will speed up your exam time, as you will not have to change prior to the exam. 

**BRING ALL IMPLANT CARDS WITH YOU TO YOUR APPOINTMENT. 


Mammogram Preps

  • Please bring prior images with you to your appointment. 
  • Do NOT use deodorants, perfumes, OR powders under your arms or on/around your breasts.
  • For your convenience and comfort, a 2-piece outfit is recommended.
